Truly Important

This past weekend, I took part in an endurance training camp in Khorfakkan, UAE—swimming, biking, and running alongside a group of passionate and committed people. But the real purpose behind it had nothing to do with triathlon.

The camp was organised in aid of Harley Jae South by two of my favourite people - Lucy and her partner Jon.
The charity is named after Lucy’s son, Harley Jae, who would have been 20 this weekend. In his memory, the charity supports children with life-limiting or life-changing conditions and their families—helping them access vital support, equipment, and unforgettable experiences.

It was an amazing weekend—full of fun, laughs, and tough sessions with an incredible group of people. But more than that, I feel lucky to have seen firsthand just how much good Harley Jae South is doing and the real impact it’s making on families’ lives.
As Lucy spoke about the children they’ve helped—sending families on once-in-a-lifetime trips, building sensory rooms in schools, providing essential equipment like wheelchairs—it really put things in perspective.

It made me realise how unimportant so many of the things I stress over every day really are. Work targets. Study goals. Training plans. They’re all fine and good—but they pale in comparison to giving a family a moment of peace, joy, or comfort in the middle of incredibly hard circumstances.

If you’re in a position to help—whether by donating, volunteering, or simply sharing their story—know that it truly makes a difference.
